There are few opportunities in life when you can schedule a meeting with the creator of a new scheduling tool using the very scheduling tool he created. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, that’s exactly what I did with Michael Galpert and SuperCalendar.
Ever since SoPo us New Yorkers get pretty excited about candles. WNYC New Tech City host and Camera Ready author Manoush Zomorodi is no exception. In fact Manoush and I are leading an online Spreecast class on making Vines, GIFs and Social Videos with or without artificial light tomorrow.
Having breakfast with Tumblr’s Katherine Barna is just like being on Tumblr: Magazines everywhere. While scheming about the upcoming Shorty Awards Microblog of the Year on Tumblr and Best Overall Brand Presence on Tumblr (enter early), we realized we’re next door neighbors and quickly traded SoPo Hurricane Sandy survival stories.
What I admire most about Ian Schafer is that despite all his success growing Deep Focus into one of the leading digital ad agencies he’s still willing to disrupt himself from his comfortable perch, as he did at the Social Media Advertising Consortium holiday party.
So things got a little crazy at the Yipit holiday party. In this lineup taken shortly before police arrived: Perpetually founder Darrell Silver, VC turned entrepreneur Spencer Lazar, Wakefield founder Tarek Pertew and Thais Nogueira (her “tweets are protected”). The conversation ranged from Darrell’s excuses for missing our event with the FT, Spencer’s sport jacket, Tarek’s latest Uncubed startup job fair, and Thais’s unrequited love for past Shorty winner Ivete Sangalo. (Police may or may not have actually arrived.)
A good-natured drink with CNN’s Lila King (who I once had the pleasure of working at CNN with) and Katie Hawkins-Gaar quickly turned to competitive hometown pride as we argued about Atlanta vs. New York pizza. They insisted we travel to Ammazza despite the danger of walkers. Natan and I begrudging had to admit it was actually great pizza despite not being in NYC. Lila and Katie proceeded to celebrate their victory this round, but it’s not over yet…
After being turned away from a free Google lunch at Pivot Conference, our ragtag group retreated and Hootsuite’s Nadia Nascimento, Ashley Jane Brookes and Matt Switzer tried their best to stay warm.
I had Mercedes Kraus’s full and undivided attention when we had coffee at Gasoline Alley. Mercedes organized ONA12’s Midway which Muck Rack was a part of, but I discovered she’s also also the founder and editor of GIF-friendly Woman Zine. Long live zines!
I got busy lobbying Alexa and James Hirschfeld, the sibling duo behind my invite maker of choice Paperless Post, to add more animated GIF functionality to their service after I ran into them at a Gracie Mansion soiree. I couldn’t tell from their expression if they liked my ideas or not.
